Centennial
Celebration at
Michigan
State Capitol
Big
Brothers Big Sisters participants from the Greater Lansing community
were invited to participate with other Big Brothers Big Sisters
and their “Littles” from across the state for a celebration
at the State Capitol in Lansing to mark the 100th anniversary
of Big Brothers Big Sisters nationwide. The event was on Wednesday,
May 19, from 1-3 p.m. inside the State Capitol building. The
Centennial celebration featured a ceremony, ice cream social,
capitol tours, and other festivities and was hosted by Big Brothers
Big Sisters of Michigan Association, which includes more than
30 BBBS affiliate agencies serving 10,213 youngsters in the
state.
First
Gentleman Daniel Mulhern spoke at the event and was enthusiastically
joined by his "Little", Chrissean. The Office
of the First Gentleman participates in BBBS of Greater Lansing's
"Lunch Buddies" program with Grand River Elementary
School in Lansing. Staff of the Office of the First Gentleman
visit their "Lunch Buddies" at Grand River Elementary
during their lunch hour to play games, talk, or help them with
their homework. Several Grand River Elementary students
who participate in this program attended the State Capitol Centennial
Celebration and were thrilled to see their "Lunch Buddies"
at the event.
